    Description

    Rare 19th Century Cast Iron Apothecary Cork Press, Alligator, Original Paint
    Used to mold corks to fit in medicinal bottles, this is a late 19th or early 20th Century Figural Apothecary druggist cork press. A rare press in original condition, it is cast iron and quite heavy.
    A Figural alligator or maybe crocodile but based on what appears to be a rounded snout looks to be an alligator. Shows traces of a copper color finish, this cork press was well used.
    THIS CAST IRON WORK OF ART, WITH A WONDERFUL HISTORY CAN BE DATED IN THE LATE 19th OR EARLY 20th CENTURY. EACH FOOT HAS A HOLE TO MOUNT THIS PIECE.
    THIS PIECE WOULD MAKE A DRAMATIC ACCENT TO ANY ART DECO, RETRO OR MID CENTURY MODERN INTERIOR, GREAT FOR DISPLAY IN PHARMACIST STORE, WOODEN COUNTER, DESK, SHELF..
    UNTIL THE 1930-40’s CORKS WERE USED TO SEAL BOTTLES OF MEDICAL PREPARATIONS SO THEY COULD TAKEN HOME BY THE CUSTOMER. CORK NEEDED TO BE PRESSED AND MOULDED IN ORDER TO FIT THE BOTTLE NECK.
    THIS CORK PRESS HAS FOUR DIFFERENT SIZED HOLES FOR PRESSING CORKS AND IT WORKED BY LIFTING THE TAIL UP AND DOWN.
